Who We Are

About Ertugrul Sevtap

Sevtap Vineyard & Winery Consulting is led by winemaker and vineyard professional Ertugrul Sevtap, whose work bridges both the vineyard and the cellar.

Through years of hands-on experience in vineyard farming and small-scale wine production, our work focuses on helping growers develop healthier vineyards and produce wines that reflect the character of their site. Our consulting philosophy is simple: strong vineyards produce better fruit, and better fruit leads to better wines. By combining practical vineyard management knowledge with winemaking insight, we help vineyard owners make informed decisions that support both vine health and wine quality. Our approach is collaborative and tailored to each vineyard. Every site is different, and solutions must reflect the vineyard’s soil, climate, varieties, and long-term goals.

Experience & Training

Our consulting work is informed by practical vineyard experience as well as ongoing study of viticulture and winemaking practices.

Areas of focus include:

• vineyard health and vine longevity

• pruning systems and vine structure

• canopy management and crop balance

• soil health and organic farming practices

• vineyard decisions aligned with winemaking goals

Ertugrul Sevtap has completed advanced vineyard training programs including pruning system training and vineyard disease prevention techniques, and continues to study vineyard biology, soil management, and sustainable farming practices.

Vineyard and Winery Consulting

Practical vineyard and winemaking guidance for growers and small producers.

At Sevtap Winery we offer consulting services for vineyard owners and small wineries seeking thoughtful, practical guidance in both the vineyard and the cellar.

Our Approach

Great wine begins in the vineyard.

Our approach combines practical vineyard management with winemaking insight. By understanding both the farming and production sides of the process, we help growers make decisions that improve vineyard health while supporting the style and quality of the wines they want to produce.

Our goal is not to impose a rigid system, but to work collaboratively with growers and their teams to develop farming strategies that are appropriate for each site.

Areas of focus include:

• vineyard health and balance

• sustainable farming practices

• organic and low-input vineyard strategies

  • Canopy management and crop balance

  • vineyard longevity and trunk disease prevention

Vineyard Evaluation

Many vineyard owners benefit from a comprehensive assessment of their vineyard’s current condition and management practices.

A vineyard evaluation may include:

• vineyard health assessment

• soil structure and water management review

• rootstock and varietal compatibility

• vine balance and yield evaluation

• canopy management practices

• disease pressure and prevention strategies

• irrigation practices

• vineyard longevity and vine structure

Following the visit, a written summary and recommendations can be provided outlining practical steps to improve vineyard performance and fruit quality.

Organic & Sustainable Farming Transition

Many vineyard owners are interested in reducing synthetic inputs and transitioning toward organic or low-input farming practices. We assist vineyards in developing a realistic transition plan that protects vine health while gradually shifting toward more sustainable practices.

Services may include:

• organic transition planning

• soil health improvement strategies

• cover crop programs

• compost and organic amendment planning

• spray program adjustments

• disease management using low-input approaches

• long-term soil vitality strategies

Every vineyard is different, and conversion strategies are designed around the specific conditions of the site.

Vineyard Management Advisory

For vineyard owners who already employ a vineyard crew, we offer technical advisory services to guide vineyard operations throughout the growing season.

In this model, vineyard owners maintain control of their crew and payroll while we provide technical planning and training.

Services may include:

• seasonal vineyard planning

• pruning strategy and vine structure

• canopy management guidance

• crop load management

• irrigation strategy

• disease prevention planning

• harvest timing recommendations

This approach works well for small and mid-sized vineyards seeking technical direction while maintaining their existing vineyard team.

Vineyard Crew Training

Well-trained vineyard crews are essential for maintaining vine health and producing high-quality fruit. We offer hands-on training sessions for vineyard teams covering key vineyard practices.

Training topics may include:

• pruning technique and vine structure

• canopy management practices

• crop thinning and shoot positioning

• trunk disease prevention and vine longevity

• vineyard sanitation practices

• organic spray program implementation

Crew training can be tailored to the specific needs of the vineyard and the experience level of the team.

Areas of support may include:

• harvest timing and fruit evaluation

This service is designed primarily for small producers looking for guidance during harvest and early winemaking stages.
